Living Stations of the Cross

Good Friday, March 29, marks the day Catholics remember Christ’s suffering and death with special Stations of the Cross devotions, including indoor and outdoor processions of the living stations (or Via Crucis) and veneration of the cross.

The following list represents a sample of Via Crucis throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago.

ST. PRICILLA (Schorsch Village)

The Via Crucis will take place inside St. Priscilla Church.

ST. ELIZABETH OF THE TRINITY (Norwood Park East)

Wednesday, March 27 at 2 p.m.
The Via Crucis will take place inside the church.

ST. PROCOPIUS/PROVIDENCE OF GOD (Pilsen)

Friday, March 29 at 9 a.m.
The Via Crucis will begin at Providence of God Church, 717 W. 18th Street, process through the neighboring streets, and end at Harrison Park, 1824 S. Wood St.

OUR LADY OF NAZARETH (South Chicago, Ill.)

Friday, March 29 at 10 a.m.
The Via Crucis will begin at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the former St. Francis de Sales, 10201 South Ewing Ave., and will conclude at Our Lady of Nazareth Parish.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION-ST. MICHAEL (South Chicago, Ill.)

Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
The Via Crucis will begin at the corner of 92nd and Buffalo Ave., process through neighboring streets, and conclude at Immaculate Conception-St. Michael Church.

ST. MARY OF THE LAKE (Buena Park)

CRISTO REY PARISH (Little Village)
25th St. and Keeler Ave.
Friday, March 29 at 9 a.m.
The Via Crucis will begin at the Epiphany worship site, 25th St. and Keeler Ave., at 9 a.m. and conclude at Little Village Park on 28th St. and Sacramento Ave. St. Agnes of Bohemia and Mary, Mother of the Americas Parishioners will also participate in this Via Crucis.

ST. OSCAR ROMERO (Back of the Yards)

Friday, March 29 at noon.
The Via Crucis will begin in front of the Parish Office, process through the neighboring streets, and conclude at St. Michael Church, located at 1953 W. 48th St.

ST. PAUL VI (Riverside, Ill.)

The Via Crucis will take place at St. Mary Church

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP (Glenview, Ill.)

Friday, March 29 at 10 a.m.
The Via Crucis will take place in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church .
The Living Stations are led and performed by the youth of our parish – religious education students, Our Lady of Perpetual Help school children and the teens of our Youth Ministry program.

ST. ANSGAR (Hanover Park, Ill.)

The Via Crucis will begin at Saint Ansgar Church, process through neighboring streets, and conclude at Hanover Park Park District Community Park, 1919 Walnut Ave.

ST. AUGUSTINE (Midlothian, Ill.)

Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
The 2-hour Via Crucis will begin in the church, process through neighboring streets of Midlothian and conclude in the church.

SANTA MARIA DEL POPOLO (Mundelein, Ill.)
116 N. Lake St., Mundelein
Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
The Via Crucis will be a play in the church and begin with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

MISSION SAN JUAN DIEGO/ ST. THOMAS OF VILLANOVA (Arlington Heights, Ill.)
2323 N Wilke Rd., Arlington Heights
Friday, March 29 at noon.
The Via Crucis will begin at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 1201 E. Anderson Dr. in Palatine. From there, participants will process through the neighboring streets through the different stations and will end at Mission San Juan Diego Church.

SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE (Des Plaines, Ill.)
1170 N. River Rd., Des Plaines
Friday, March 29 at noon.
The Via Crucis will begin at noon in the plaza of the Shrine and proceed to the Shrine’s Entrance, where Pontius Pilate will issue the order for the crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus. Subsequently, the Living Stations of the Cross unfold across a Historic Maryville Academy Campus, culminating in the final station back at the Plaza. Participants are invited to bring their own wooden crosses to act as Jesus did through the stations of the cross.

ST. JULIE BILLIART (Tinley Park, Ill.)
7399 W 159th St.
Friday, March 29 at noon.
The Via Crucis will begin at St. Julie Billiart Church, process through the neighborhood streets and stopping to pray at parishioners' homes which are the “stations” and will end back at the church.

ST. MICHAEL (Orland Park, Ill.)
14327 Highland Ave.
Friday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
The Via Crucis will take place in the St. Michael Parish Parking Lot. Parishioners gather on our parish parking lot to pray in English and Spanish the Way of the Cross, helping the faithful to participate in the passion of Jesus.
