For nearly 50 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has been supporting low-income communities as they address root causes of poverty and injustice through community organizing, leadership training, and economic development. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by awarding grants, educating about root causes of poverty, and building bridges of solidarity in Cook and Lake Counties.
An annual collection that takes place the Sunday before Thanksgiving is the primary source of funds for grants to support community-controlled, self-help organizations and transformative education efforts. In 2017, we raised over $632,000 that was distributed among 26 projects in the Chicago metropolitan area.
