Become a PreCana Facilitator
Preparing couples for the sacrament of matrimony is a privilege and a responsibility. Pope Francis encourages facilitators to “help couples to live the rest of their lives together ‘with great courage and generosity.”
As ministers to couples, PreCana facilitators witness the joy of a Christ-centered marriage, help couples preparing for marriage understand the beauty of Catholic theology and essential relationship principles and skills, and prompt meaningful conversations as couples apply the content to their lives. However, the most important aspect of your role is to help couples become comfortable with talking about their faith, especially with each other. You are here to help them develop a stronger relationship with God so that He is the center of their union.
Please listen to Mark and Peggy Fechner talk more about the beauty of this ministry and how facilitating PreCana inspires engaged couples to the mission and vocation of marriage.
PreCana Facilitator Training Dates 2023
All married couples feeling called to marriage ministry and interested in facilitating PreCana sessions to inspire engaged couples in the vocation and mission of marriage are invited to complete the following interest form.
We strive to help young people discover the dignity and beauty of marriage. PreCana courses offer couples the opportunity to learn about the sacrament of marriage and prepare their hearts leading up to their wedding day and beyond.
The Office of Lifelong Formation currently offers PreCana virtually using Zoom. PreCana sessions are held live and led by trained married couples. Engaged couples enjoy the benefit of live interaction with other couples as well as the comfort of having private conversations. Couples can choose between weekend and weekday evening options. Couples getting married outside of the Archdiocese of Chicago are also welcomed to participate.
Facilitators are trained and supplied with all the materials needed for the training sessions. Facilitator candidates will be given opportunities to shadow PreCana sessions until comfortable to run a session. Facilitators will be given a stipend for each session they facilitate. The team will be available for assistance and support for all sessions.
PreCana facilitators are responsible for:
- Implementing the designated curriculum, “Marriage in the Lord”
- Facilitating at least two or three PreCana sessions a year
- Mentoring new PreCana presenters
- Sharing successful and challenging stories with engaged couples
- Introducing the Christian understanding of a sacramental marriage
- Participating in ongoing formation either in-person or through online opportunities
