Join Our Mission
Volunteer
By volunteering with Kolbe House, you become part of a community of individuals opening their hearts to the suffering of those who are incarcerated. Our volunteers are not alone on this journey, but are accompanied by our staff and by each other. To learn more about any of our volunteer opportunities, fill out our volunteer interest form online.
Penpal Ministry
Individuals in prison need support in order to move forward on a path of healing, accountability, and personal development. Through a simple, friendly exchange of letters, our volunteers remind them that they are not forgotten, that they are human. By becoming a penpal to an individual in prison, you can provide a crucial link to the outside world that becomes a lifeline for them.
Re-Entry Ministry
Individuals returning to the community after incarceration face numerous barriers that prevent them from achieving stability. Our volunteers provide a hospitable atmosphere, a safe space for sharing, and referrals to partner organizations who can further assist individuals with their specific needs.
Jail Ministry
From Alpha groups to one-on-one chaplaincy, centering prayer, Bible studies and financial literacy, Kolbe House is the largest outside provider of supportive programming in Cook County Jail. We couldn’t do it without our growing network of laypeople and clergy from all over the Archdiocese, whose relationships with individuals in jail custody foster healing, create peace and restore dignity.
Parish Ministry
We welcome collaborative efforts with parish communities, including education and service projects for child and adult faith formation, speaker opportunities, and collection drives. To go even deeper, initiate a parish journey towards resurrection through One Parish One Prisoner. Contact Emily Cortina at [email protected] to start the conversation.
