Laudato Si’ is Pope Francis’ insightful encyclical on Caring for Our Common Home. It stresses how all life is interconnected in an intricate web called “integral ecology.” Recognizing this integral ecology, we—individually and collectively as communities of faith—are called to hear and respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.
The Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, which has primary responsibility for promoting the Encyclical Letter Laudato Si’, has created the Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP) as a structure to reflect and implement a collaborative response in making the teachings of the Encyclical come to life, along a seven year journey.
LSAP sets a path for all to embrace an integral approach to care for creation. The Archdiocese of Chicago is one of nine dioceses partnering with the Vatican to promulgate the LSAP throughout the U.S, Universal Church and among people of good will.
Why This Is Important
As Pope Francis states in Laudato Si’, “We are faced not with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental. Strategies for a solution demand an integrated approach to combating poverty, restoring dignity to the excluded and at the same time protecting nature.” (LS 139)
