Natural Family Planning

A Healthy Option to remain faithful to God’s plan for marriage

Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an umbrella term for the natural, healthy, morally acceptable methods of family planning recommended by the Catholic Church to help couples space, achieve or avoid pregnancy.

Natural Family Planning Methods

NFP methods are completely safe and natural, and do not involve the use of any medications, drugs or devices. NFP has no harmful side effects.

There are three methods of NFP taught in the Archdiocese of Chicago that you can choose from: the Billings Ovulation Method, the Sympto-Thermal Method, and the Creighton Model System. Click here to read more.

NFP classes

The cost for the in-person Introduction to NFP class is $49 per couple. This is a two-hour class that covers biology, how to use the method, the Church's teaching, and basic charting. It is a recommended part of the marriage preparation requirement, and we encourage you to learn NFP four to five months before your wedding. If you decide to continue and use the method, you’ll move forward to take Learning the Method. This consists of one lecture class followed by four individual and confidential sessions. Click on the class for times, locations, and fee. Introduction to NFP is required before taking Learning the Method classes.

Full classes are also available online in English and Spanish and captioned here
