Build a Better You and a Brighter Tomorrow

Amate House fosters transformations, both for the young adult fellows and the communities in which they serve. These transformations take shape as Amate House fellows live out the tenets of Service, Community, Faith, Social Justice and Stewardship. Fellows dedicate a year of their lives to serving alongside and learning from community leaders who are solving social justice issues in under-resourced communities of Chicago.

Building a more just and loving society during this unprecedented time.

For 40 years, Amate House has attracted dedicated and caring young people who are answering the call to not just a year of service but to the opportunity to grow and become leaders who will go on to change the world long after their year with us. Fellows commit to serving with Amate House for a year, choosing to work for justice at a time of great divide in our country.

Our mission to serve others is more important than ever. Communities are being marginalized, intolerance is surging, and people living in at-risk communities face systemic challenges like never before. Amate House Fellows are eager to learn about these issues and respond to them and ultimately be a part of finding solutions to injustice.

“Amate House respects and upholds the dignity of all persons regardless of the identities they hold. We believe that creating a just and diverse environment is more than an ideal, but rather at the core of who we are as an organization. We welcome people of every race, religion, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, and family composition. We celebrate all persons regardless of where they may be on their spiritual journey. We value persons of all faith traditions, those with no faith tradition, as well as those who are questioning and exploring. We work to be a community that follows Catholic Social Teaching, which upholds the life, dignity, and equality of all human beings.”
