The World Youth Day Pilgrimage is an opportunity for young adults to celebrate and pray with the Universal Church and Pope Francis in Panamá.

The Archdiocese of Chicago, in collaboration with Verso Ministries, is proud to sponsor a pilgrimage to Panamá for World Youth Day 2019 for young adults (age 18 to 30+).

What is World Youth Day?

World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope that is typically celebrated every three years in a different country. It is open to all young adults who want to take part in a festive encounter with their peers that is focused on Jesus Christ.

This event is an opportunity to experience the universality of the Catholic Church and a unique way to deepen your faith and grow closer to Christ alongside thousands of young people from all over the world.

Why take a personal pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is an opportunity for people to take time out of their ordinary lives to focus on what’s most important - their faith, their lives, and the community around them. At various moments throughout the pilgrimage, pilgrims will have time for prayer, renewal, personal reflection, learning, and inspiration from keynote speakers, performers, and catechists.

The World Youth Day pilgrimage is also a unique chance to build community with fellow pilgrims form Chicago and meet pilgrims from around the world.

Pilgrimage Sites and Activities

The pilgrimage will be a mixture of talks, prayer services, concerts, rallies, liturgies, and more. Arriving a day early, pilgrims will also have the opportunity to explore the city and visit the Panamá Canal. Pilgrims will have a chance to attend all of the official World Youth Day events and learn more about the Catholic Church in Panamá.
