  • Liturgy

  • Administration
    • Manages, schedules and supervises all paid cantors, choir section leaders, and music volunteers, and hires additional musicians for special occasions as necessary
    • Designs worship aids or booklets as necessary
    • Participates as a full member of the St. John Berchmans staff by working collaboratively with the pastor, school principal, director of operations, director of faith formation and education and by attending staff meetings, liturgy committee meetings and other events as necessary

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or liturgy; master’s degree preferred
  • Strong organ, piano, and vocal skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge and love of Catholic liturgy, music and tradition
  • 3-5 years of experience in church music (may include part-time service); 5+ years preferred
  • Experience in or ability to facilitate bilingual liturgies in English and Spanish; bilingual and/or bicultural preferred

Tenor for Sanctuary Choir – part time

Our thirty-voice choir is a talented and capable ensemble adept at singing the great chant of our Church and living composers of our time. In addition, he/she will plan, assist and play for parish weddings, funerals, first communions, confirmations, and other special liturgies throughout the year.

This person should be a person of prayer, and someone who is, or is striving to be, an intentional disciple of the Lord. He/she should have excellent vocal skills along with being able to play the pipe organ and piano. He/she is knowledgeable and comfortable with Church music in all its forms and styles for the congregation, choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists. This person is proficient in liturgical principles, and has a thorough understanding of the musical, liturgical and pastoral judgments which must be made in the selecting music for sacred liturgy.

The Director of Music position is, at this time, a part-time non-benefits position. A period of 20 – 25 hours/week is required for planning, preparation, and vocal/instrumental presentation, as well as weekend and Holy Day liturgies. Days off will be negotiated in consultation with the pastor.
